Saronni Frame : SingleSpeed Plans

Quite sad I had retire this ole faithful from 1985...still its life is not over. I plan to build it up as a singlespeed, basically recycling parts from my bin :-

- Tecnotrat Saronni 54cm Columbus Aelle 'Pearl White'
- Shimano Sante Cranks (thinking of removing the outer chainring)
- Shimano W-RH540 wheels
- Shimano 600 Stem
- Shimano 600 Seat Post
- Ambrosio 39cm Vintage Drop bar
- Shimano Square Taper Bottom Bracket

Additional items that I will need to get to build up as Singlespeed....

- Brake Calipers and Levers (damn, should not have sold the old one!)
- Freehub -> Singlespeed conversion kit
- Chain

Since the frame has a campy horizontal dropout (the longer kind) there will be no need for a chain tensioner. I gather I would need to spend another 100SGD at least to get it the additional parts new/used.

A Bad Week in Life, an OK Weekend for Cycling

Well what can I say? Bad week indeed.....my 7-month old son was hospitalized, diagnosed with Kawasaki's disease. Yes I know, wtf is that??? Well its not common but not rare as well. Its cause is still not known and there is no direct way to diagnose it....just by the prolonged fever and a couple of other symptoms. Read it up if you have kids!!! He's ok now but we are worried sick right now on that the long term effect (aftermath) of this disease will leave on his health; his heart in particular. We are going for a first scan to tomorrow (2D Echogram). Pray for us and our little boy.... Back to cycling...did a quick ride on Sat...managed to complete the usual course (about 29km) in about 64 minutes. Was really struggling to get up to speed along Changi Coast Road and tried really hard to keep at 30km/h....the aim was to do it in less that an hour! Well I failed. Only managed an average of 27.5km/h for the entire ride. Prior to the ride I had a niggling stiff neck and weird nerve...

Tecnotrat 'Saronni' and 'Others'

Here are a few Tecnotrat 'Saronni' and 'Others' still hard at work. Tecnotrat shipped a lot of these frames during the 1985-1989 period, badging them as Saronnis, Ferraris, Europa, a whole lot more! Tecnotrat Saronni This one's in Japan . Original paintwork intact! Same chromed fork as mine. Well maintained! Love those cages..... ( www.campyonly.com/ retrobikes/gallery.html ) Some pics of Saronni frame alone Tecnotrat 'Others' 'Europa' badged Tecnotrat, brought into Australia for Europa Cycles. She is in not too good condition but as a steel, it will be easily refurbished by its new owner. Personal Best 10km & Adieu MotoACTV (for now)

10km PB Decided to go for a 10km 'go for it' run! After some weeks of not doing speed training (eg. trying to better my 10k), I went for it today. Took (reluctantly) the Kinvara's out as I feel its the right shoe for the occasion or I just being pussy and needed the pads below my feet. Let's just see if my speed has suffered after all these long distances. On the go, I just went at the fastest I could do 'comfortably' ...... stride was lengthened a bit, focus on a natural relaxed forefoot strike, which I do anyway. Strangely, the Kinvara did not feel as squishy as before...perhaps after 100km it has broken in (?). Managed to keep good pace till 5km. No niggles on the legs as well...they felt ok throughout. Breathing was consistent and HR was steadily moving up, as expected, over the distance. At 5km point, it was not even the best time but its still under 26m and I felt relatively better compared to other attempts....the 2nd 5km was only slightly worse and t...
