Weekend before JMFR 2011

Did the same 115km route on Saturday. Luckily no dramas. Started out with no pressure, just to be "back by 9am"....actually that is quite a pressure in itself already! This ride had particularly more headwind and neutral conditions that previous rides. Felt ok at Punggol but can feel steadily draining out at Pasir Ris. At coastal I caught up with a joyrider tri-bike equipped with powertap. He saw me sticking to his wheel and steadily increase his speed to about 40km/h at the straight until he motioned me to pass and I did, but I signal to him stick to my wheel as well. Led at 40-42km/h, slight headwind then he took over again. All in all, pretty decent speedy run at the straight considering I've already gone through 100+km solo. On this ride, I wore my new Mavic shorts (a bit too large at XL but works ok) and had one new GU Vanilla Bean flavour. The shorts are very good, and Vanilla taste is not bad as well! Thank goodness, no drama on this ride (no punctures!). Had a nic...

Milestone : 30km ECP - Coastal - ECP

Image
Usual ride but what a ride it was. I will be away this weekend (no riding then!) so thought I have some bike time this morning. Set off at around 5.05am with the intention of doing the dreaded ECP - Coastal - ECP. Why 'dreaded' you might ask? Well, its a relatively simple and straightforward route, only 30km or so BUT I've this thing going on with this route and it has become officially my personal speed challenge route. Every time I take this route, I'm reminding myself my personal best and should I or should I not try to break it. Well this time around, I started quite strong, and surprisingly after about 100m or so, without warm-up (its bad!) I was doing 32-33km/h 'comfortably'. When I was done with the slow park area, prior to entering Coastal road, my ave was about 32.5km/h...so I thought, hey, I can do this....I can surpass 33km/h easily. And I did. By the time I reached halfway, ave was about 33.6km/h but on-route back I was getting a bit spent but still ...

Feb 2011 : 3rd highest mileage month

Had a good riding month in Feb...completed 700km on the bike (incl. NTU Bike Rally). This is only 3rd to June 2010 (856km but include TOP) and Sept 2010 (828km but include BnB2010). Let's see if March can top this (I seriously doubt it!) Looking into SportTracks...since Sept 2011, - Ave HR seems to have dropped a little bit - Ave Power has increased quite a fair bit - Ave Speed has increased On track for TOP 2011. Faber madness will start right after Janamanjung 2011.
