Kuantan : The Road Trip.....

Yes, it was nice to complete the 160km and all but the trip itself to Kuantan was wonderful. This is my FIRST TIME in Kuantan and Ben's friend CY (with his dad) were excellent hosts despite their schedule. What makes this also very special to me is that they are Singaporeans, residing/working in Kuantan! The irony : The Singaporeans working in Malaysia, hosting the Malaysians working in Singapore, in Malaysia!

Ben basically drove the entire way up (this made me feel even worse for not waiting for him during the final portions of the ride...). Right just after Kota Tinggi, in the middle of nowhere, we went to Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh. Great tasting stuff over here! Possible one of the best I've tried anywhere. Probably has a lot to do with MSG as well. Along the way, at Endau, we wanted to try the Nasi Lemak with Siew Yuk (roasted pork) but could not find it...that would have been great.

At Kuantan, we visited some new land developments. Seems like the there has been some kind of huge injection of funds into this area (Lynas?) and Kuantan is growing fast. More so compared to my hometown, that's for sure. CY also shed a lot of light to me on the mysteries of birds nest harvesting. Area around and about Kuantan is HUGE in this lucrative line. Currently, 1kg of cleaned nest can net in about 6k+ RM. No joke!

We had lunch and ABC (Ais Batu Campur) at the family restaurant and pub....what a nice place! If you are ever in Kuantan do drop by O's Corner. Whether it is to chill with friends over a few beers or have a nice family dinner. The place looks even better at night!

At night it was dinner at this food court.....excellent local fare!

Post-ride, on the journey back to Singapore, we stopped for cendol. Champion Cendol and Rojak. Very unlike the luminous green stuff they serve in Singapore (plastic?).

At night, we went to a local eatery along the Kota Tinggi highway and has a great (albeit small) dinner. This butter calamaris are the biz!

As we arrived in Singapore, that familiar feeling of burden, pressure came back. Well, at least we had good fun (and torture) over in Kuantan! Recharged and ready for battle again.
