Desaru Loop (11th April 2009)

This is my 3rd trip and Alu's first. This time I planned for a different route, basically going clockwise ISO anti-clockwise as Ti and Me did back in New Year's Eve 08-09.

The weather was quite forgiving although the report did indicate 60-80% chance of rain. We went on the bum boat and kicked off at around 8.45am from Pengerang (charge from singapore is 7 bucks one way plus 4 bucks for the bike). Stopped awhile at Sg.Rengit for a quick 100-plus stop and off we went to tackle the stretch to Petronas station along highway 92 about 27km worth of mostly up-rolling hills. It was quite tough, even on my 3rd time here but again, we were lucky that while this was the toughest stretch, the weather was quite cloudy and not too much direct sunlight. There was quite a strong headwind though that proved frustrating for us as we could not gain enough speed on the downhill due to this.

Stopped a while to have our Uncle Tobys and 100-plus at Petronas before moving off towards Desaru and finally the stretch towards south. I knew we will be mostly going downhill from here but still quite a fair bit of uphills. It was getting hotter and we were tired so naturally we struggled a bit especially on the 2nd half of this southern stretch. Upon reaching Ramunia, on the southernmost tip of Malaysia, we stopped by a Air Tebu stall and enjoyed the cooling/refreshing drink a a sheltered bus stop. We reached Sg. Rengit around 12.10pm.

Tried to enjoy a hearty lunch but I was really tired to really stuff myself up (which proved to be a disastrous experience from my last trip). When we moved off at around 1pm, the sun was its fury right on top of us...making the final 18km to Pengerang the longest stretch!

We waited for a bum boat for around an hour and only really set off at 2.50pm or so (22 ringgit per person incl bike). The final ride home from Changi Village started under hot sun which gradually became cold heavy rain upon reaching east coast park! We were completely drenched upon reaching home.

Here's a compiled plot from me.
